The most common mistake people make when repairing an e-scooter isn't the repair itself — it's ordering the wrong part. Scooters that look almost identical can use completely different batteries, tyres or controllers, and a part that fits one model won't always fit another. This guide shows you how to confidently identify the right spare part for your e-scooter, so you order correctly the first time.
Step 1: Know your exact model
This is the single most important step. "I have a Xiaomi" or "it's a Kugoo" isn't enough — you need the specific model, because parts vary between versions.
Here's where to find it:
- On the scooter itself: check the stem, deck, or underside for a model name or sticker (e.g. "M365," "M4 Pro," "G30 Max").
- In the app: if your scooter connects to an app, the model is usually shown in the device settings.
- On your original box or receipt: the full model name and version are almost always printed there.

Step 2: Identify the exact part you need
Different parts are identified in different ways. Here's what to look for depending on what you're replacing.
Tyres: the size is printed on the sidewall (e.g. "8.5 x 2" or "10 x 2.50"). This number is what matters — see our tyre size guide for how to read it. Browse tyres here.
Batteries: check the voltage and capacity, usually printed on the battery itself (e.g. "36V 7.8Ah"). The replacement must match the voltage exactly, and the connector must match too. Browse batteries here.

Step 3: Check the connector and fitment, not just the name
This is where a lot of online orders go wrong. Two parts can be labelled for the same model but have different connectors, because manufacturers change components between production batches. Before ordering electrical parts especially (batteries, controllers, chargers), it's worth checking:
- The connector type — take a photo of your existing plug and compare it.
- The voltage — must match exactly. A 48V part will not work safely on a 36V scooter.
- The physical size and mounting — especially for batteries, which need to fit the stem or deck housing.
A five-minute check here saves you the hassle of a return later.
Step 4: When in doubt, ask before you buy
If you've identified your model and part but you're still not 100% certain it'll fit — don't guess. Getting it confirmed takes a minute and saves you a return.
