Ordering the wrong tyre is the single most common mistake people make when buying e-scooter parts online. The good news: your scooter already tells you exactly what size you need — you just have to know where to look and what the numbers mean. This guide shows you how to find your e-scooter tyre size in under a minute, and get the right fit first time.
Where to find your tyre size
The size is printed on the sidewall of your existing tyre — the flat outer face, not the tread. Look for a set of numbers moulded into the rubber, usually something like:
8 1/2 x 28.5 x 210 x 2.5090/65-6.5
Give the tyre a wipe if it's dirty — the numbers can be hard to spot under road grime. If the tyre is very worn and the print has rubbed off, don't worry; we'll cover how to work it out below.
What the numbers actually mean
E-scooter tyre sizes usually follow one of two formats.
Format 1: Diameter x Width (e.g. 8.5 x 2)
The first number is the overall diameter of the tyre in inches (how tall it is). The second is the width in inches. So "8.5 x 2" means an 8.5-inch tall tyre that's 2 inches wide. This is the most common format on popular commuter scooters like the Xiaomi M365.
Format 2: Width/Height-Rim (e.g. 90/65-6.5)
This metric-style format appears on larger, off-road and performance scooters. The first number (90) is the width in millimetres, the second (65) relates to the tyre's profile, and the last number (6.5) is the rim/inner diameter in inches. So "90/65-6.5" is a wide tyre fitting a 6.5-inch rim.
E-scooter tyre size chart
Here are the most common e-scooter tyre sizes and the models they typically fit. Always confirm against the numbers on your own tyre — this chart is a guide, not a guarantee.
| Tyre size | Commonly fits |
|---|---|
| 8.5 x 2 (8 1/2 x 2) | Xiaomi M365, 1S, Essential, Pro, Pro 2; many budget commuters |
| 10 x 2.50 | Larger commuters and many Kugoo, Aovo and iScooter models |
| 10 x 2.75-6.5 | Off-road and higher-power scooters |
| 90/65-6.5 | Wide off-road tyres (e.g. some Kugoo, Zero, dual-motor scooters) |
| 8 x 2 | Compact and lightweight scooters |
Model fitment varies by version and year — the number on your tyre is always the final word.
How to measure if the print has worn off
If your tyre is too worn to read, you can work out the size by measuring:
- Diameter: measure across the whole tyre (top to bottom, through the centre) in inches. That gives you the first number.
- Width: measure across the tread from one side to the other in inches. That gives you the second number.
Measure the tyre while it's still on the scooter and properly inflated (if pneumatic) for the most accurate reading. Round to the nearest common size from the chart above.
Don't forget: tyre AND inner tube
If your scooter uses pneumatic (air-filled) tyres, remember that the inner tube has its own size too — and it needs to match the tyre. When replacing a pneumatic tyre it's good practice to replace the inner tube at the same time, as an old tube in a new tyre is a common cause of a quick repeat puncture.
If you're tired of punctures altogether, this is a good moment to consider switching to solid or honeycomb tyres, which never puncture and don't use an inner tube at all. Our guide on solid vs honeycomb tyres explains the difference.
Still not sure? We'll check for you
If you've read your tyre size and you're still not 100% sure which tyre fits your scooter — or the print has worn off completely — don't guess and risk ordering the wrong one.
Message us on WhatsApp with your scooter model (and a photo of your current tyre's sidewall if you can), and we'll confirm the exact size you need before you order.
