How to Replace an E-Scooter Kickstand - Easy Guide

The kickstand is one of the most used and most abused parts of an e-scooter. It gets kicked, knocked, caught on kerbs and snapped off entirely. A broken, bent or floppy kickstand is annoying, but it's also one of the quickest and cheapest repairs you can do yourself. This guide walks you through replacing it in a few minutes.

Signs your kickstand needs replacing

  • It's snapped off completely
  • It's bent and no longer holds the scooter at the right angle
  • It's gone floppy and won't stay up when you ride (it rattles or drags)
  • The spring has failed, so it doesn't snap back into place
  • The mounting point or bolt has worn loose

A floppy kickstand that drops while riding isn't just irritating — it can catch the ground and is worth fixing promptly.

What you'll need

  • A replacement kickstand that fits your scooter
  • Allen keys / a spanner (usually just one or two sizes)
  • A couple of minutes

That's genuinely it — the kickstand is one of the simplest parts to replace on an e-scooter.

Step-by-step replacement

1. Lay the scooter down safely. Switch it off and lay it on its side so you can easily reach the kickstand mount, usually on the underside of the deck near the rear wheel.

2. Note how the old one is fitted. Before removing anything, look at how the kickstand is mounted — the bolt, any washers or spacers, and how the spring sits. A quick photo helps.

3. Remove the old kickstand. Undo the mounting bolt with your Allen key or spanner. Keep the bolt, washers and spring together — you may be reusing some of them, depending on whether your new kickstand comes complete.

4. Fit the new kickstand. Position it the same way the old one sat, fit the spring so it provides tension to snap the stand up and down, and tighten the mounting bolt. It should be firm enough that the kickstand stays securely up when folded, but still moves freely when you kick it down.

5. Test it. Stand the scooter on the new kickstand to check it holds at a stable angle, then flip it up and make sure it stays up and doesn't drop on its own. Give it a few test kicks up and down.

Getting the right kickstand

Kickstands aren't fully universal — the mount, length and fitting vary between models. To get the right one:

  • Check your scooter model and look for a kickstand listed as compatible with it.
  • Note the mounting type — how it bolts on — and the length, so the scooter sits at the right angle.
  • If in doubt, take a photo of your old kickstand and its mount before ordering.

A kickstand that's the wrong length will leave the scooter leaning too far or barely tilted, so matching it to your model matters.

While you're down there

Replacing the kickstand means you're already looking at the underside of the deck — a good moment to quickly check the surrounding bolts and the folding mechanism for anything loose, and glance at the cables and connectors for wear. Catching a loose bolt now saves a bigger problem later.
